Unfortunately, there is probably no official VW Isofix retrofit option for the early T4 California.

Two 10mm holes are drilled in the cross brace.
In die Querstrebe werden zwei 10mm Löcher gebohrt.
Here, screw the Isofix holder with the supplied screws and new self-locking nuts + washers. This is a bit fiddly, but with a 17 mm wrench you get well to the nut.
Hier den Isofix-Halter mit den mitgelieferten Schrauben und neuen selbstsichernden Muttern + Unterlegscheiben verschrauben. Das ist etwas fummelig, aber mit einem 17er Schlüssel kommt man gut an die Mutter.
When unfolded, the bench does not rest on the holder.
Im ausgeklappten Zustand liegt die Bank nicht auf dem Halter.
And if you fold the bench back up, the Isofix hooks automatically slide through the seat gap.
Und klappt man die Bank wieder hoch rutschen die Isofix-Haken automatisch durch den Sitzspalt.
If necessary, the plastic boxes can still be mounted.
Bei Bedarf können die Kunststoffkästen noch montiert werden.
